Why are there no supermarkets in downtown Vancouver? The only place within half an hour's walk of the hostel is a tiny corner store in Chinatown, where I can get bread, chocolate and, if I'm feeling exceptionally wealthy, cup noodles. It is impossible to get from the hostel to the store (a journey of maybe three minutes) without being politely asked for change by at least four different homeless people.
I am fairly certain I am developing scurvy.
